Privacy Policy

Who we are

Datagroup (“we”, “us”, “our”) is a data & AI services company based in Johannesburg, South Africa. We help small and medium businesses automate workflows, engage customers on WhatsApp, and make sense of their data.

This policy explains what personal information we collect when you use www.datagroup.co.za, why we collect it, and what your rights are under the Protection of Personal Information Act, 2013 (“POPIA”).

What personal information we collect

We collect only your South African mobile number — nothing else. No name, no email address, no payment details.

We also record the date and time your number was submitted, and which part of the site you used (e.g. the contact form). These are operational records, not used for marketing profiling.

We do not use cookies, advertising trackers, or third-party analytics. Your visit to the site is not tracked.

Why we collect it and how we use it

Your mobile number is collected for one purpose: to start a WhatsApp conversation so that a Datagroup team member can follow up with you. We do not use your number for bulk SMS, cold calling, or any purpose unrelated to the enquiry you made.

Who we share it with

To send you a WhatsApp message we pass your number to Meta Platforms, Inc. (the operator of WhatsApp) via the WhatsApp Business API. Meta processes this data in accordance with its own privacy policy. We do not sell or share your data with any other third party.

Your number is stored in a Microsoft Azure SQL database hosted in the South Africa North region (Johannesburg). Microsoft processes infrastructure data as our data processor under applicable data protection agreements.

How long we keep it

We retain your mobile number until you ask us to delete it. If you would like your record removed, email us at privacy@datagroup.co.za and we will delete it within 7 business days.

Your rights under POPIA

As a data subject you have the right to:

  • Access — request a copy of the personal information we hold about you.
  • Correction — ask us to correct inaccurate information.
  • Deletion — ask us to delete your information (see above).
  • Object — object to us processing your information.
  • Complain — lodge a complaint with the Information Regulator of South Africa if you believe we have handled your information unlawfully.

To exercise any of these rights, contact us at privacy@datagroup.co.za.
